SCM PROJECTS

SCM Foods and SCM Crafts

SCM Foods was set up 5 years ago. It is a trading activity belonging to SCM and helps provide income to support the various SCRATCH projects.  We sell Fair trade tea, coffee juices dried fruits and Snacks.  It is run by volunteers.  We sell mostly through the local church and school network. We also have a long established link with Uganda as many of the Anglican churches have church to church links with the area of Busoga, Uganda. We have been involved in the establishment of income generating projects such as fruit drying and basket making. The baskets for sale on this website come from a women's group in this area. SCM Crafts is part of SCM Foods.

Schools Work

SCM has been working on a project called QuOF  (A Question of Faith) helping schools to deliver parts of the RE curriculum. This involves assemblies and lessons.

Dorcas Project

Dorcas project is designed to relieve the effects of poverty by providing furniture and household items.

Donated items are passed on to individuals and families referred to us with recognised needs. Donations come from the general public, schools, churches and the corporate sector.  Referrals come from over 150 agencies that simply telephone our office. Dorcas Project can offer a Basic Package of furniture. The cost of this package is £60 for deliveries within Southampton and £85 outside of the city.

Basics Bank

Basics Bank started in 1996. It is a clothing and emergency food project with referrals made by a voucher scheme. The voucher reveals the identity of the agency referring  the client and the help needed. Clients are then sent or brought to the "Bank" to choose the clothing needed  (as much as three or four outfits per person can be covered by the voucher) and to collect food if required.  Food parcels are designed to last for up to five days depending on the need and intended to help in emergency situations.

Christmas Completed

Christmas completed runs each year immediately prior to Christmas and it the means of helping local children trapped in poverty. Local schools, organisations and churches, from across the city and beyond. donate toys and other gifts. Referral agencies are invited to contact the charity with details of children who would otherwise receive little or nothing for Christmas.

White Goods

This project deals with Electric cookers, Fridges, Fridge Freezers, Washing Machines and Tumble Dryers. At present there is funding from a local charity for people living in the city centre area. Outside that area charges apply for each appliance. A new Community Interest Company- Solent Re-use has been set up. They are responsible for collecting  checking and repair of electrical items.
